Strawberry Earth and Greenchoice proudly present the Dutch Environmental Film Festival (DEFF), an annual platform for the best international, environmental films and documentaries.

Each year DEFF screens major international and national premieres, hosts inspirational speakers and creative green organisations, and organises memorable festival parties with talent from the European DJ and live music scene.
DEFF is the only major international film festival in the world that uses 100% of all money raised to make the screening venues eco friendlier. Thanks to the support of energy company Greenchoice - and all our other sponsors and partners - DEFF has grown to become one of Europe’s premier environmental film festivals.

///INSPIRATION
While enjoying a fresh and juicy organic breakfast and the most delicious eco-cookies in the world I watched the Keynote presentation about the just lauched book ‘Goed Boek’ (=Good Book). ‘Goed Boek’ is written by Hilde Roothart from Trendslator and Irene Ras van TRNDnew and presents TEN chances for a better future.

I was very pleased to be invited by well know Dutch Trendwatcher Hilde Roothart and to be surrounded by people who initiated good projects like Mette from Strawberry Earth and Emile de Roy van Zuydewijn from www.thuiszorgemile.nl. After a research about chances for social innovation amongst consumers, products, citizens and companies one thing became clear: there is hope! ‘Goed Boek’ shows signals for this positive culture shift which is taking place Big Time! Good to know: Hiphonest.com is mentioned in the book. At the blog Project Hoop you can follow the ongoing reasearch.

I am seriously wondering when the first Hiphonest sneaker concept store will open it doors.. Do you know already one? Anyway besides fun labels like Veja, Ohema Ohene, Worn Again, Keep, Simple shoes newcomer label: !SYOU walks in this green-conscious shoebidoo-joehoe market. What I like most is !SYOU is their Co-Design concept. ‘A creative and commercial handshake across the world.’

So !SYOU co-design is the unique collaboration between emerging local talent - drawn from a diverse selection of proud nations - and established fashion designers. For every pair that’s sold, 10% of the purchase price is directly donated to the local talents from the country the model is inspired from. The first batch of co-designed, first edition !SYOU Burkina Faso sneakers have recently landed in Europe.
Read about Butterfly Works’ involvement with !SYOU.

///NEWS LOCAL
After a week and a half long the cleaning strike in Amsterdam comes to an end and an agreement has been reached. The streets were very dirty and many residents took advantage of the strike and placed furniture and large stuff on the sidewalks. Actually what annoyed me most was the awareness it gave me of the RUBBISH we all produce. Luckily, the stench of the garbage was kept to a minimum due to Amsterdam’s relatively cool May weather!
A sincere ode to all the diehard cleaners has been made last Sunday by a group of hilarious party-people when the cleaning heroes started taking away smelly piles of ‘our’ stuff!
