Already joined a PechaKucha Night? Pecha what?? Well PechaKucha, drawing its name from the Japanese term for the sound of ‘chit chat’ started in Tokyo in February 2003 as an event for young designers to meet, network, and show their work in public. Yesterday I had my first PechaKucha experience..and let it ‘rain’ on me.

PechaKucha has turned into a massive celebration, with events happening in hundreds of cities around the world, inspiring creatives worldwide.  Concept is to present your story in 20 alluring images x 20 seconds. The understandability and flow in this presentation format provides you as a visitor the perfect dose on inspiration.

One of the marvelous concepts was the RAINCAMPAIGN developed and designed by agency MisterWilson. Entrepreneur Bas Manders presented the RAINCAMPAIGN as an innovating, surprising environmental friendly outdoor advertising campaign. Using only rainwater.

One thing of for sure! Living in a city is a fertile source for ideas. This ‘shitty’ rainy climate in the Netherlands brings magic! And in Paris, the ‘city of love’, you can find these flirty ’streetharts’. The good news is that this RAINCAMPAIN supports the recovery of the rainforests. With every campaign they make for a client, like for example tire importer company Continental, a percentage will go to an international rainforest project which protects the rainforest.

///FASHION, ART AND PARTY

Last weekend Strawberry Earth gave this unique event in Design Hotel V in Amsterdam: called the Strawberry Earth Hotel Crash. Gladly I had the opportunity to have a quick peek in the themed rooms, decorated by participating artist, brands and sponsors.  The result was very tempting, original and fresh, well done by these artists. Pictures posted soon!

The attracting international line up promised to be a big success and the party was already sold out the week before. Slagsmalksklubben, Festa med Killar, Amsterdam’s own RedNose Distrikt and a live act by Lucy Love made it a party to be remembered. Unfortunately I was at another party, but next time I definitely join.

After the party 96 guests helped to create a cleaner planet by sleeping in one of the hotel rooms. And to give this concept a winning added value you could book one of these themed rooms. Created with the help of among others Studio JUX, Greenchoice,  Anne Claire Petit,  Aveda, Timberland and Simon Wald Lasowski.

Strawberry Earth, is a platform for creative people from all over the world who want to do something positive for the environment. ///CONCEPT STORE

For a fast-trend-update the must-see places in Paris are: Colette (for a gadget/designer update), Centre Pompidou with the exhibition elles@centrepompidou, Palais de Tokyo (because they sell artistic necklaces, great books and Veja’s) and … MERCI.

Merci is a stylish concept store that opened its doors half a year ago nearby neighborhood le Marais. Created by the former owners of French kids brand Bonpoint, Marie-France & Bernard Cohen. In Merci you can find to fashion, books, interior design, perfume and much more with an ecological angle. The idea behind Merci is that the selected brands are conceding their profit margin to charities in Madagascar. You will find items by Isabel Marant, Stella McCartney, YSL etc.

THE PLAY GROUND

This very inspiring magazine ‘the play ground’ presents different viewpoints; from Haiti to London, from Paris to Mongolia.The scope of the play ground is multi-generational and includes contributions from people aged 4 to 90 - revealing the unimportance of age and the importance of the creative record. My favourite ‘have a break’ place in Amsterdam is the kitsch and hip pie cafe ‘De taart van mijn Tante’. These delicious pies come in all shapes and colours, decorated with sugar, fruit and even Kens & Barbies.
Enjoying my strawberry pie with yellow sprinkles the chic appearance of Mr. Jones caught my eyes. His friendly and charming look made me decide to order a big teapot for two. Hospitable Mr. Jones is he introduced me to his friend Smoking Joe and told me some beautiful stories about Chef Chaoun and Cape Farewell.

This week, the Stoere Vrouwen were promoting the delights of an eco lifestyle. By presenting products like tea, chocolate, wine and books they inspired a lot of Dutch women at the Housekeeping Fair. This event is one of the biggest events in the Netherlands and attracts 250.000 women every year.
