Makes this cleaning strike us more aware of our consumption behavior?

This is way we need to do the ‘Cradle to Cradle’ thing!

///NEWS LOCAL

After a week and a half long the cleaning strike in Amsterdam comes to an end and an agreement has been reached. The streets were very dirty and many residents took advantage of the strike and placed furniture and large stuff on the sidewalks. Actually what annoyed me most was the awareness it gave me of the RUBBISH we all produce. Luckily, the stench of the garbage was kept to a minimum due to Amsterdam’s relatively cool May weather!

A sincere ode to all the diehard cleaners has been made last Sunday by a group of hilarious party-people when the cleaning heroes started taking away smelly piles of ‘our’ stuff!

Folklore @Elle Style Award, Amsterdam

///FASHION REPORT

Last weekend me and my friend Edwin Oudshoorn (..this sounds like name-dropping..), Dutch precious fashion designer, visited the ‘Elle Style Award’ 2010. I have to admit the pre-party was as exciting as the real sparkling event, longing for the goody bag and being styled by Ed. Theme of the night was Folklore and Elle choose for the perfect location,  the Hermitage in Amsterdam.

collage-folklore2

Congrats to stylist Lisa Anne Stuyfzand for the Elle H&M STYLIST OF THE YEAR AWARD. Job was to create a mind blowing, high fashion folklore show based on ten H&M items mixed with designers labels and vintage specials.  Lisa created a strong and balanced image of old fashion Dutch folklore with Brazilian carnaval.

Beatrice Jolly, one the other nominated stylists, took another, more global citizen approach on the theme. Every woman represented another culture translated in a refined streetwise and gorgeous outfit. Bravo!

Some ideas for Elle Style Award 2011: Why not integrating more honesty in the theme and let the stylist be creative on that. Let H&M provides their newest items from flourishing fibres like milk, bamboo or skin fish. Or even cradle to cradle materials. Enrich the goody bag with Tony Chocolony or Verkade chocolate, some Shizo samples, mr Jones tea and serve organic proseco.  So thanks Elle, for the profesional organized party and this exclusive cheerful night!

my outfit

In this outfit: skirt, hair and eco necklace made from Brazilian nuts by Edwin and my vintage -way to hot- vest and pumps, I felt like a Russian Folkore princess. Surprisingly the goody bag dazzled me with an organic bag from H&M. But hey H&M why is your eco-collection so extremely SMALL?

O let it rain @Pecha Kucha Amsterdam

///INSPIRATION

Already joined a PechaKucha Night? Pecha what?? Well PechaKucha, drawing its name from the Japanese term for the sound of ‘chit chat’ started in Tokyo in February 2003 as an event for young designers to meet, network, and show their work in public. Yesterday I had my first PechaKucha experience..and let it ‘rain’ on me.

PechaKucha has turned into a massive celebration, with events happening in hundreds of cities around the world, inspiring creatives worldwide.  Concept is to present your story in 20 alluring images x 20 seconds. The understandability and flow in this presentation format provides you as a visitor the perfect dose on inspiration.

One of the marvelous concepts was the RAINCAMPAIGN developed and designed by agency MisterWilson. Entrepreneur Bas Manders presented the RAINCAMPAIGN as an innovating, surprising environmental friendly outdoor advertising campaign. Using only rainwater.

One thing of for sure! Living in a city is a fertile source for ideas. This ‘shitty’ rainy climate in the Netherlands brings magic! And in Paris, the ‘city of love’, you can find these flirty ’streetharts’. The good news is that this RAINCAMPAIN supports the recovery of the rainforests. With every campaign they make for a client, like for example tire importer company Continental, a percentage will go to an international rainforest project which protects the rainforest.

///FASHION, ART AND PARTY

Last weekend Strawberry Earth gave this unique event in Design Hotel V in Amsterdam: called the Strawberry Earth Hotel Crash. Gladly I had the opportunity to have a quick peek in the themed rooms, decorated by participating artist, brands and sponsors.  The result was very tempting, original and fresh, well done by these artists. Pictures posted soon!

site Strawberry Earth

The attracting international line up promised to be a big success and the party was already sold out the week before. Slagsmalksklubben, Festa med Killar, Amsterdam’s own RedNose Distrikt and a live act by Lucy Love made it a party to be remembered. Unfortunately I was at another party, but next time I definitely join.

After the party 96 guests helped to create a cleaner planet by sleeping in one of the hotel rooms. And to give this concept a winning added value you could book one of these themed rooms. Created with the help of among others Studio JUX, GreenchoiceAnne Claire PetitAvedaTimberland and Simon Wald Lasowski.

Strawberry Earth, is a platform for creative people from all over the world who want to do something positive for the environment. Strawberry Earth, founded by Mette te Velde and Ikenna Azuike, philosophy is to focus on creative souls. Based on the idea that cultural shifts (and trends) are mostly made and spread by these inventors with a feeler for change. By adopting this positive approach on the environment in their lifestyle, these trendsetters will set the tune for the bigger mass.

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6vTyTm54p-A

With their live events Strawberry Earth combines fun parties with instant results for the environment. Strong concept is that the venue for these events, like a club, café, cinema or hotel is investing the revenue in a more eco friendlier place.

Strawberry Earth is a radiant network of people with an optimistic but critical state of mind. By contributing their skills in fashion, design, writing, music, organizing etc to a better and more beautiful world, they are a big inspiration for Amsterdam, the Netherlands and beyond.
